So early start this morning to get the 7.10 bus to Markina-Xemein saving us a 2.5km walk that wasn't part of the Camino. As it was still dark we found a cafe and had breakfast till 8.15, sunrise.
It was a pleasant walk with an initial slow ascent up the valley. But today there were going to be lost of ascents and descents.
1 hour out we stopped in a nice village for another coffee.
Then continued climbing, the scenery was great.
We arrived into Gernika at 3.45 so was a long day. Then we jumped on 4.15 train into Bilbao. While not the official route we had decided to avoid walking through the suburbs and industrial landscape of Bilbao.
Now sitting in a square in Bilbao enjoy a fabulous Spanish G&T or two!
