So a very wet start, Jens and I agreed to do the last day together, so packed up and got the wet gear on, exited the Albergue crossed the road to the café for breakfast. Avo, and eggs on toast. (Not as good as Penny’s)
We eventually took the plunge at 08.30 and headed out into the rain. Oh was it wet, not just what was hitting us full on but the ground was saturated and we were dodging large puddles all the way.
It was only 20km so 4 hrs walking and I was fine on the flat but there were several climbs and here the temperature under the wet gear would rise causing me to sweat a lot, so wet on the outside and wet on the inside, not nice but I it was not too bad.
We passed loads of pilgrims on the road because we had departed much later and there was a jovial friendly atmosphere.
We took a few photos at notable markers and eventually saw Santiago in the distance. The rain also became intermittent.
We dropped down into the suburbs and made our way to drop off the backpacks first at the Albergue Semanario Menor before heading to the cathedral. We checked in and dropped our bags off and then headed the kilometre to the cathedral and the square, took some photos had a few beers and picked up the certificate.
We went back to the Albergue changed and relaxed then headed out and celebrated again with 2 large Gin and Tonics. We also manage to meet up with some of the pilgrims we met over the week as someone had added me to one of the what’s app groups.
Relieved to have finished it but …..
