So John Kelpie arrived eventually last night. Landing at Bilbao airport at 15.20 and managed to get the 15.45 bus to Zarautz. There he got on a train to Deba. It went 5 minutes and one stop where everybody got off, strange but hung on wanting it to go to Deba after 5 minutes went to investigate and only just managed to jump on the replacement bus service 😂.
He arrived in Deba and hike 1hr to the accommodation in pishing rain and all uphill. He still arrived in good spirits and we mangled to watch Ireland demise in the Rugby World Cup and had some fab fish food in the Pikua restaurant.
We departed the next morning after breakfast at 09.00
Pretty straight forward hike, we immediately left the coast heading inland through pretty dramatic landscape.
Arrived in Markina-Xemein at about 2pm. Unfortunately our accomodation was 2km of the route in Etxebarria. Very small town with one very large factory.
Accommodation is fairly basic twin room but it’s fine. Now enjoying two very nice G&Ts. Salud!
