Today was a fab perfect length and fabulous landscape. Of rugged beeches and quirky paths. One stage did get a bit scary where we were walking on road with no footpath around a blind corner.
The weather was perfect. It is warm in the sun and cool in the shade.
We departed Ribadesella at 8.30 and crossed the main bridge and found a cafe that was just opening for breakfast, the fresh croissants arrived as we order coffees.
We then walked along a concave promenade with posh house in one side and the sea on the other for about a kilometre, most of the houses were holiday homes, very posh.!
We stopped several times to take int the fab coastal views.
We stopped at a seaside restaurant for lunch near La Isla and kept it very light and share a plate of padrón peppers, they were fab.
We departed the coast heading inland and won’t be back to the coast until Gijon.
Below is a photo of a ‘Horreo’ they are very unusual and are designed to store grain. Theyare elevated to keep it dry and each of the feet have an extra wide stone at the top to stop rodents getting to them.
It took us 5hrs11 and 21.5km to reach Colunga, we celebrated with a well deserved and delicious G&T
Tomorrow we are off to Villaviciosa only approx 17.5km.
